REFLECTIONS

Week 1 -24/02/2020

Today James start the class with an exciting activity. He gave us each an iPad with the DM apps on it, and he asked us to try and figure out how it works. It reminded me of the lecture that I attended previously, and it relates! She mentions as a teacher; we should not do the “banking method” which is to put all of the information to your students and ask them to do it according to your list.
In here, I can see that James is trying to make us understand and develop our answer by playing with the DM apps first. Rather than pointing all out how it works, he asks us and show it step by step He also mentions in class, that while explaining things to students use their own vocab/ words because that is so much easier rather than giving a new term that they do not understand at all.

DM apps

Week 1 – 26/02/2020

We try another exciting app called Soundtrap. It’s a bit similar to the DM apps that we’ve had before, but I think this is more fun! Each of us creates short music by playing with it.
James mentions in class that everything that we have can be the source of making music, especially when we live in a generation where tech is accessible. Some students might not be interested in music, but as a teacher, we could use this medium to attract our students’ interest, cause each of them had their love for a song.

I never thought that music in tech could be this fun; I always imagine that music class is only about learning the materials from the book. But it turns out that music tech is a new way of teaching students enjoying music by building their creativity to the next level.

Week 2 – 02/03/2020

This time there is cooler digital stuff that we try and play. We manage to try five different kinds of tech such as AKAI, KORG, ROLAND and others.
They have a similar function to compose songs or doing a remix. The thing that makes them different is that some of them are more modern and have more functions. They are from different range of price as well.
It is a great opportunity to let our students explore and create their music from what they have learned, and just letting them be creative and explore!

Week 2 – 04/03/2020

Exploring different types of the microphone is fun! I always get curious about how people on youtube got to cover songs, and their voice sounds perfect! Well, it is their angelic & lovely voice, but thanks to the tech they sound 50% much better (just kidding, they’re all my fav). The extra thing with the microphones is you can use record your voice, or anything can be instruments, etc. and arrange different kinds of music, mood, and effect on your computer!
There are different types of microphones which specialize in their field. There are specific microphones for choir, recording an instrument, voice, podcast and each of them has their advantages and disadvantage.
